This month we are highlighting Sifu Lee Yokota and Sifu Asa Tenpow.
Both Yokota and Tenpow fought in the full contact advanced men’s san shou fights in the 10th Annual International Chinese Martial Arts Tournament hosted by Nick Scrima in Orlando, FL. Over 200 hundred fighters came to fight in the tournament with competitors from all over the country, Russia, Germany, Canada, and China.
Sifu Tenpow did very well. He beat his first opponent by unanimous decision (basically giving the crowd a san shou clinic!) His next fight was dubbed by most of the spectators as the fight of the tournament! Unfortunately he lost by split decision after three hard fought rounds.
Sifu Yokota also did very well. He defeated his first opponent by unanimous decision. In the second fight, he knocked out his opponent (from Columbus, Oh) in the first round. He won a “by” in the third round (a by means that he was able to go to the next round without having to fight.) This put him in the finals for the championship. His opponent was from St. Louis, Missouri. He defeated him by unanimous decision after three hard fought rounds (he busted Sifu Yokota’s nose open in the second round).
Finally, a special announcement. Sifu Asa Tenpow has earned a slot on the United States Kickboxing Team. His first fight for team USA will be on Septmeber 20th in Italy! We will keep you posted as we find out more information.
